It’s fun.  It’s fascinating.  It’s cutting edge.  And it can change your life.  What is it?  Would you be surprised to discover that it’s the Feldenkrais Method? Is it possible that you are hiding your light under a bushel?  The Feldenkrais Method can be a lucrative income stream even as it helps people improve their quality of life.  But how do we sell something some people can’t even pronounce?

This 5 day adventure provides tools that can help any practitioner profit from their Feldenkrais teaching experience.  Whether you want to be a solo entrepreneur, media maven or integrate yourself into an existing organization, you need skills to help the public bridge the gap of understanding between the Feldenkrais Method name and the benefits it provides.

Adventures in Marketing is designed to assist practitioners at every level of experience and need – from trainee to assistant trainer:

  • TARGET your avowed and unavowed dreams as a teacher.
  • Brainbreezing sessions will help you turn your particular passion into a profitable practice.
  • Discover painless networking, community building strategies that will make you and the Feldenkrais Method  household words.
  • Develop writing and public speaking skills without the usual stress.
  • Enjoy Awareness Through Movement® lessons that will help integrate and organize thoughts and movement.
  • Learn about website development, brochure writing, book proposals and much more.
Using learning strategies based on the Feldenkrais Method, I have created what I hope is a delightful adventure in business growth.  In addition to my teaching, there will be workshops with a graphics designer, a website developer and a business consultant to help you refine your materials and design successful strategies.  These advertising professionals will also be available during the week for additional private consultations on relevant topics.  (See details below)

The Faculty

Lavinia Plonka, GCFP, Feldenkrais Cheerleader

My dream is to make Feldenkrais a household name, service marks or not.  With that intention, I’ve written two books and recorded CDs, all of which have international distribution.  I’ve written countless articles for lofty and humble publications.  As Director of Asheville Movement Center, and before that The Movement Center in NJ, I’ve introduced hundreds of people to our wonderful work.  And I teach workshops all over the country to the general public, trying to bring together local practitioners with new students.

Julie Parker

Julie Parker was designing websites back in the horse-and-buggy era of the web when all the pages were grey, all the text was black, and all the pictures were on the left. She has a BFA in painting, and an M.S. in information design (educational technology) with a specialty in Visual Literacy. She began her own web design business in 1997 (see handwovenwebs.com) and has been weaving words and pictures with threads of light ever since.

Bruce Stewart

Bruce Stewart has been a consultant’s consultant for 30 years. He blends his expertise in NLP, biofeedback, T’ai Chi and Aikido to help people make sound decisions. He shows clients how to access resources within themselves for clarity, wellness, and success. By focusing on what really matters, Bruce helps businesses and individuals release limiting beliefs, behaviors and conditions. Bruce has served on the faculty at Southeastern Louisiana University, Loyola and NLP University at UC Santa Cruz. He has co-written a book with his wife Lou Danielson Stewart: Your Way Home – The Psychology of Place Inside and Out. Together they conduct workshops in aligning inner and outer resources in the US and Europe.

The Venue

Asheville Movement Center is a comfortable space with central air (if needed), easy parking, a bathroom and handicap accessibility. We have blankets, pads and other Feldie accoutrements if you wish to travel light and leave your mat at home.   For more info visit: ashevillemovementcenter.com

Accommodations

As a tourist town, Asheville has a huge range of accommodations.  Check out: exploreasheville.com/where-to-stay/index.aspx

Unfortunately, there are no hotels within walking distance of the Asheville Movement Center.  (Although there is a hostel about 1 mile away, bonpaulandsharkys.com. They also offer a group rate, so if more than 6 people are interested, I’m happy to contact them.)

However, once you have chosen lodging, we will work to organize rides and car pools for those who choose not to rent a car.  There are buses that stop on the corner as well.  While I’m not an expert on all accommodations in Asheville, I’m happy to answer questions about convenience, location, etc as you make your plans.

Extracurricular Activities

Asheville has been a tourist destination since the turn of the 20th century.  With destinations like the Biltmore Estate and Grove Park Inn, there’s a kind of over the top elegance you can only find in the South.  However, Asheville is so much more: hiking, mountain biking and kayaking take place amidst spectacular mountain vistas, waterfalls and lush country meadows.  Asheville is a huge arts and crafts town with galleries, artisans, fairs galore.  For some ideas of what to do visit:
